Double Beam UV-VIS Spectrophotometer

Double Beam UV-VIS Spectrophotometer is the quantitative measurement of the reflection or transmission properties of a material as a function of the wavelength that deals with visible light, near-ultraviolet, and near-infrared.

Spectrophotometers can measure a light beam's intensity as a function of its color (wavelength). Important features of spectrophotometers are spectral bandwidth (the range of colors it can transmit through the test sample), the percentage of sample-transmission and the logarithmic range of sample-absorption. Torontech’s UV-Vis spectrophotometers are used in the UV and visible regions of the spectrum working on the principle of absorption spectroscopy or reflectance spectroscopy in the ultraviolet-visible spectral region. This means it uses light in the visible and adjacent ranges. The absorption or reflectance in the visible range directly affects the perceived color of the chemicals involved. In this region of the electromagnetic spectrum, atoms and molecules undergo electronic transitions.

Absorption spectroscopy is complementary to fluorescence spectroscopy, in that fluorescence deals with transitions from the excited state to the ground state, while absorption measures transitions from the ground state to the excited state

There are two major classes of devices: single beam and double beam. A single-beam spectrophotometer measures the relative light intensity of the beam before and after a test sample is inserted. A double beam spectrophotometer compares the light intensity between two light paths, one path containing a reference sample and the other the test sample.

Samples for UV/Vis spectrophotometry are most often liquids, although the absorbance of gases and even of solids can also be measured. Samples are typically placed in a transparent cell, known as a cuvette.

The use of spectrophotometers spans various scientific fields, such as physics, materials science, chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology. They are widely used in many industries including semiconductors, laser, and optical manufacturing, printing and forensic examination, and as well in laboratories for the study of chemical substances.

UV/Vis spectroscopy is routinely used in analytical chemistry for the quantitative determination of different analytes, such as transition metal ions, highly conjugated organic compounds, and biological macromolecules. Spectroscopic analysis is commonly carried out in solutions but solids and gases may also be studied.

Torontech’s TTUVVisDBI Double Beam UV-Vis spectrophotometer comes with high-quality grating, reduces stray light level, and improves test accuracy & linear range. Wavelength calibration is executed by deuterium lamp, mercury lamp, HO2O3 solution provides excellent wavelength accuracy. The design of the TFT color screen and water-proof keyboard adds to unique features of TTVUVVisDBI.
